In 1947, the club was renamed AC Napoli, but a year later, it was relegated due to "match-fixing." In 1960, Venancio transferred to Bologna, and the following year, Napoli was relegated to Serie B. On June 25, 1964, the club was officially renamed Società Sportiva Calcio Napoli. In June 1984, Napoli signed the Argentine football legend from Barcelona. In the 1986/87 season, Napoli won the Serie A title, finishing 3 points ahead of the second-place team. ![]() Current SituationIn 2004, Napoli declared bankruptcy, and just six days later, film producer Aurelio De Laurentiis decided to acquire the club. In the 2017/18 season, Napoli started Serie A with an eight-match winning streak and remained at the top of the standings for a long time, eventually finishing as runners-up with 91 points—4 points behind Juventus—becoming the first runner-up in Serie A history to exceed 90 points. In June 2023, Rudi Garcia officially succeeded Luciano Spalletti as Napoli’s head coach. In January 2024, Napoli signed Pasquale Mazzocchi and Ngongo. In the Italian Super Cup, Napoli lost 0-1 to Inter Milan in the final, missing out on the title. |
