Netflix has released a three‑part documentary about renowned Portuguese manager José Mourinho, reviewing his managerial career. It sheds light on the famous mole‑hunt incident during Mourinho’s tenure at Real Madrid.
According to Marca, the documentary covers the well‑known “mole” affair and the high‑profile, sensational investigation launched by the Portuguese coach inside the Real Madrid dressing room. His goal was to identify who was leaking starting line‑ups, tactical plans and internal confidential information to the media.
Iker Casillas recalled: “He simply went crazy. He gathered all of us together and shouted and screamed at us. He said all of this was our fault. I cannot remember whether he kicked a water bottle away before slamming his office door.”
“‘Who leaked that information? It must be the mole. So who is the mole? Go and find him, track him down.’”
Marcelo was present at that moment and shared his own account of the incident.
Marcelo: “He was beside himself with rage. That is just his personality. He gave everything he had to help us win in the best possible way, yet information only known inside our group got leaked out. To this day, we still wonder who that leaker actually was.”
Rui Faria, who worked as Mourinho’s assistant coach at the time, stated they were almost certain about the identity of the leaker.
Rui Faria: “We knew who the mole was, practically for sure. At the end of the day, the answers were in the newspapers. We could not produce direct proof, yet we could draw an almost definite conclusion about what had happened.”
