According to Mundo Deportivo, FIFA investigators have received all documents regarding the post-match conflict following the World Cup final, with disciplinary sanctions against the Argentina national team expected to be announced soon.
After the World Cup final, Leandro Paredes, Nahuel Molina and coaching staff member Pablo Ayala were involved in a series of post-match clashes. FIFA subsequently confirmed the appointment of an investigator to probe potential disciplinary violations occurring after the final fixture.
The disciplinary investigator in charge of the case has obtained all relevant materials, including the head referee’s match report and official FIFA match inspector reports. As a result, the final ruling is expected to be officially released within 15 to 20 days.
In accordance with the FIFA Disciplinary Code, Leandro Paredes is likely to face a minimum three-match suspension for his violent conduct towards Eric García and Gavi. The code clearly stipulates that violent acts warrant a minimum three-match ban, and any assault on opponents or non-official personnel including elbow strikes, punches, kicks, biting, spitting and physical assault will result in a minimum three-match suspension or equivalent disciplinary penalty.
Nahuel Molina and Argentina assistant coach Pablo Ayala are also poised to face similar disciplinary measures. Molina is accused of pushing Rodri, while Ayala received scrutiny for his aggressive reactions towards Álvaro Morata and Eric García. In the mildest scenario, if their actions are deemed unsportsmanlike conduct, they may receive a one-match suspension.
It remains unclear whether FIFA will include certain Argentina players’ inappropriate behavior during Spain’s trophy ceremony in the investigation scope. If included, the Argentine Football Association may face financial penalties. All disciplinary verdicts will be finalized within several weeks.
